San Juan County Arrest History
A San Juan County arrest can begin with the Sheriff, Blanding Police, or another agency with power in the place where the event occurred. Monticello routes police service through the San Juan County Sheriff. Near Navajo Nation lands, Navajo Police may hold the report through a separate sovereign records channel. State or federal officers can create still more paths. The place name alone does not identify the custodian. Start with the badge or agency shown on a citation, release sheet, or case entry.
Each arrest may leave four distinct records. The arresting agency writes the report. San Juan County Jail creates the booking file when a person is taken there. A Utah court opens a case only if charges are filed. Fingerprint-supported information can later reach the Utah Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Identification, or BCI. Those files describe different stages. A booking proves a custody event, not guilt, and an arrest charge may change after review by a prosecutor.

For a recent San Juan County booking, call the Sheriff and jail at 435-587-2237 or ask at the Public Safety Building lobby. Give a full name and, when known, the arrest date. Staff can say what public custody information is available and whether the person remains there.
Absence from an online page means little because there is no local page to search. A person may also have been cited without jail intake, released before the call, held by another sovereign, or transferred. The jail reports an average population of 90, but that is neither a live count nor rated capacity. San Juan County searchers should confirm current custody by phone, then move to the arresting agency and court for the rest of the trail.
Warrants have the same phone-first limit. San Juan County publishes no active-warrant search or app. Confirm execution status with the Sheriff, District Court at 435-587-2122, County or Monticello Justice Court at 435-587-2544, or Blanding Justice Court at 435-678-2334. XChange may show a case event, but it is not a live warrant-status tool.

- Use UDC Offender Search only after Utah Department of Corrections custody or supervision begins. For a full self-review, the subject uses BCI Right of Access because Utah has no public statewide name search.
- File a focused GRAMA request when public details are not given by phone. Name the event date, place, agency, case number, people involved, and the exact report or booking fields sought.
XChange is a court index, not proof of present custody. BCI is identity and fingerprint based, not a public tool for searching another person. The San Juan County criminal court case file is the right next step when the goal is to verify filed charges, pleas, dismissal, or sentence.
San Juan County Jail Booking Sequence
San Juan County Jail staff begin intake after transport. They collect identity details, take a booking photograph and fingerprints, and record the charges presented at that point. The officer provides a probable-cause statement. According to the Sheriff’s published process, a judge has 24 hours to review that statement and set dollar bail or an unsecured bond. If release does not follow, jail staff classify and house the person while the case moves ahead.

An incident report may add the event location, officer, allegations, narrative, and evidence. A court file may add the prosecutor’s charges, hearings, plea, outcome, and sentence. Neither belongs in the booking file merely because the same person and event are involved.
San Juan County Arrest Report GRAMA
The Sheriff does not advertise a separately named records division or a self-service copy portal. Its Accident and Crime Reports page directs requests through the county GRAMA process. Mail a request to San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, PO Box 788, Monticello, UT 84535, use the counter at 297 South Main Street, or call 435-587-2237. Ask the custodian whether the Sheriff holds and may release the arrest report, booking data, CAD or 911 material, photographs, or body-camera video. These are separate records and can receive different redactions. Sheriff policy retains body-camera recordings for at least 180 days, with the records custodian reviewing public release. The county GRAMA application is the formal fallback. No flat base fee or promised turnaround was found, so wait for a cost assessment before paying.

Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
San Juan County, Blanding, and Monticello do not publish a daily booking log or recent-arrest search. Monticello sends law-enforcement calls to the Sheriff. Blanding Police posts useful monthly activity in city council packets, but those tables are not a name-based blotter. For December 2025, the department reported 25 arrests or charges, including two warrants. December 2024 showed 31 arrests or charges, including six warrants. These are one-month work counts, not convictions or countywide crime rates.
Blanding has no city jail, so a person jailed after a Blanding arrest travels to San Juan County Jail in Monticello. The report remains with Blanding Police at 167 East 500 North, 435-678-2334, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The booking belongs to the county jail. A low-level city case may go to Blanding Justice Court, while a felony or Class A filing goes to District Court. That split shows why a single recent-arrest list would not answer every question even if the county offered one.
San Juan County Arrests in UDC
The county jail covers local and pretrial custody, while the Utah Department of Corrections covers state incarceration and adult probation or parole supervision. UDC Offender Search becomes useful only when that state role begins. It can search by first and last name or by offender number. Published results may include legal status, housing location, offenses, sentence length, a committing court, a case number, and Board dates. It does not replace a call to San Juan County Jail for a fresh booking.

For a person checking their own full Utah history, UDC is still not the complete source. Use BCI Right of Access. The $20 process is identity controlled and can be completed in person or by mail. Utah Code §53-10-108 limits dissemination, so there is no general public statewide name search for another person’s BCI rap sheet.
Arrests Are Not Convictions
An arrest record shows that an agency took enforcement action or that a jail accepted a person into custody. A conviction requires a qualifying guilty plea or finding in court. San Juan County booking charges can be dismissed, changed, or never filed.
